Arranging an annual health exam for your pet is one of the best steps you can take to keep your pet healthy. During your pet’s exam the veterinarian will perform a thorough physical exam (checking heart, skin, eyes etc.), discuss nutrition, behaviour, parasite prevention and go through any specific concerns you may have. Your annual visit is the perfect time to receive the most recent information on animal care. A stool sample should be tested for intestinal parasites at least once a year for adult pets. If any specific concerns arise, diagnostic testing may be recommended for your pet. Just as with people, blood work is often required at the time of a physical exam to provide a more in-depth look at your pet’s health. Vaccinations are another component of preventative care for your pet. At the time of your pet’s annual examination, the veterinarian will recommend and administer health-protecting vaccinations. Some vaccines require boosters to be given every year; others may be given every 2 or 3 years. Of course you do not need to wait until your pet’s annual health exam to have questions answered and concerns addressed. Anytime you feel you are requiring the advice of a veterinarian, please call the office so we can assist you.
